Location

Grindstone Island is in Big Rideau Lake, on the Rideau Canal System between Ottawa (Canada’s capital) and Kingston. The nearest town is Portland, Ontario.

Timing

All Seminars run from Sunday through Friday afternoon, and are structured with ample time for hands-on work, discussion and recreational activities.

Participants should plan to arrive on Saturday afternoon and depart on Friday morning. Schedule your flights to arrive after noon, and depart after noon. Alternate arrivals may be accommodated by special request.

Airport

Participants should fly into Ottawa International Airport (about 1 hr. distant).

Transportation from the Airport to the Island

We can arrange transportation from the airport to Grindstone Island; include this on your registration form. There is no local public transportation.

Pick-ups will be made at Ottawa International Airport on Saturdays, at either 1pm or 5pm. Drop-offs will be made at Ottawa International Airport on Fridays at either 10am or 3pm. Access to Grindstone Island will be provided by our private boat.This is included in transportation from the airport. (Emergency arrangements have been made with local ambulance services and hospitals.)

Communication

The Internet is always available to you in the computer lab or from your laptop. Phone service on the Island is used for Grindstone business and emergencies. There are no public phones. Your cell phones (with Canadian access) will work.
