Jennifer Baird
With a background in languages, linguistics and museology, as well as a personal interest in education and learning, Jennifer has worked with museums, schools and aboriginal communities, both nationally and internationally, to bring their stories to the world via Internet and to feature these stories at special venues. Jennifer was project coordinator on the award winning virtual exhibition entitled "Haida: Spirits of the Sea ? Xaada Chaan Sgaanewaay" (www.chin.gc.ca/haida). Produced in collaboration with the Haida community, and featured at the Canada Pavilion at Expo '98 in Lisbon, Portugal this exhibition was the recipient of the Golden MIM (Montreal '99) and Best on the Web (ICOM'99). It was also recognized with an Honourable Mention in 1999 at "Museums and the Web" in the category of Best Online Exhibition. The success of this project led to further collaboration for Expo2000 in Hanover Germany, with Jennifer coordinating the production of "Our World Our Way of Life" in collaboration with the Haida community, as well as with organizations presenting the Inuit world view on Sustainable Development. A third project, on Germany?Canada Migration, came about through the participation of schools in Bonn and Hanover, Wolfville Nova Scotia, Montreal and Ottawa.
