The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Timeline of Art History Session: Demo Session 2 The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Timeline of Art History provides an overview of the history of art as illustrated and represented primarily in the Museum's collection and supplemented by non-Museum artworks. In my presentation, I will demonstrate the behind-the-scenes work on the Timeline as an example of a museum-wide educational effort, describing the content-related and technical challenges, limitations, successes, and potentials of creating such a resource in a large museum with multiple curatorial departments, and hence multiple voices. I will discuss processes from coordinating content of this scope with curators and contractual researchers, to collaboration with colleagues in design, editorial, collection management, and the web group. I will also discuss the technical limitations in the automation of object pages. Finally, I will share some of the feedback we have received from our evaluation with our users. |
