Alex PentlandHead of Perceptual Computing SectionMassachussetts Institute of Technology Media Lab 20 Ames Street E-15-384a Cambridge MA 02139 USA Alex Pentland is the Academic Head of the MIT Media Laboratory. He is also the Toshiba Professor of Media Arts and Sciences, an endowed chair last held by Marvin Minsky. He has done research in wearable computing, human-machine interface, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, machine and human vision; his research was recently summarized in the April 1996 and November 1998 issues of Scientific American. He has won awards for his research from several professional societies, and Newsweek magazine recently named him one of the 100 Americans most likely to shape the next century.
