Session: Keynote Speech 1
In light of one real Y2K problem--the evaporation of an ocean of dotcoms--it has become fashionable to speak about the age of the dotorg--that is, of non-commercial uses of the Web which hold real promise not for profit but for progress. This talk will survey some of the efforts to launch online communities which could be of benefit to cultural institutions and to their visitors, and attempt to highlight challenges and opportunities ahead as the Web becomes portable, voice-activated, GPS-enabled, and personalized.
