Heinz Leitner died October 8, 2007.

Since 1999, Professor and head of the department for the conservation of wall painting and architectural polychromy at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden.

A first practical formation in Conservation of wall paintings in Austria and Italy, starting 1972, was completed 1978 with studies on the ICCRom Wall-paintings Conservation Course.

As conservator first, activities in the conservation laboratory of the Bundesdenkmalamt in Vienna 1978 followed by conservation activities in Austria, being personally responsible for a number of major conservation projects. Regular lecturing and publishing activity was linked to a close collaboration with several European institutions in education of conservation of wall paintings.

1997 the Master Degree at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London.

Consultant for the Getty Conservation Insitute, ICCRom, UNESCO, several Heritage organisations in Germany.

Member of the board of studies and external examiner at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London University.

Advanced methods and techniques of documentation of architectural surfaces as cultural heritage were addressed all over these activities, including the participation in workshops, like Gradoc, Rome 1999 and specific publications. As part of teaching and research activities at the University in Dresden this focus on documentation has been further developed.
