Digital Interfaces for Art & Science Exploration for Special PopulationsSlavko Milekic , Hampshire College, USASession: Workshop 7 In this workshop we will explore special interfaces for populations with special needs (like voice input, touchscreens, gaze control, etc) and review different ways of making the general user interface friendlier to populations with transitional special needs.
Modern technology makes exploring of artifacts and data easier in all realms. However, little effort is devoted to the creation of interfaces for digital environments that make this exploration (and consequently education) easier for populations with special needs. For the purposes of this workshop a population with special needs is defined as any population which cannot fully realize its potential for information and knowledge exchange in the digital medium. Thus, an 'average' user becomes a user with special needs in a noisy environment, under poor lighting conditions or in an environment where the instructions are written in a foreign language! |
