Virage offers solutions to help manage and search large sets of digital images including photos, line art, digitized paintings, videos, and other types of multimedia typical of museum collections. The Visual Asset Manager is a web-based management application built around Virage's breakthrough Visual Information Retrieval (VIR) technology. VIR stores and retrieves images based on their inherent visual characteristics such as overall color, structure, texture, and color composition. This essentially allows the user to ask the application to "show me all of the images that look like this one" and to avoid relying soley on subjective, text-based descriptions.
