Daniel G. Aliaga is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University, USA. His research activities are in the area of computer graphics, in particular capturing and rendering complex objects as well as large environments. Applications for his research include telepresence, computer-aided design, and education. Dr. Aliaga has developed new algorithms for 3D object modeling (e.g., image-based modeling, static object modeling, and dynamic object modeling), for modeling of large urban spaces (e.g., buildings, layouts, urban simulations), for rendering acceleration (e.g., impostor-based simplification and integrated systems), and for other related topics such as camera calibration, image compression, and camera design. In addition, he holds several patents related to 3D acquisition and modeling, has designed several complete experimental research systems, and has worked in close collaboration with Purdue University, Bell Labs, Princeton University, Johns Hopkins University, and Univ. of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research has been funded by NSF, Microsoft Research, Adobe Inc., and Purdue Research Foundation. Furthermore, Dr. Aliaga has served on numerous conference program committees and NSF panels, and as journal editor, conference chair, and conference tutorial/course organizer, and is a member of ACM SIGGRAPH.
