Demonstration: Demonstrations - Session 1

MMP is responsible for developing museum management policies and procedures for over 320 park museums. MMP staff is responsible for the NPS museum web site at www.cr.nps.gov/museum that includes context-rich exhibit features such as the American Visionary series, the American Revolutionary War, an archeology series and others; the NPS Web Catalog with search and browse capability across participating individual park databases, and NPS publications. Many features are multi-media. New features and the in-house digital photography set up will be presented.

Links to the Past at www.cr.nps.gov showcases programs of the NPS National Center for Cultural Resources including the Archeology and Ethnography program, the National Register of Historic Places, Heritage Preservation Services, and the Historic American Buildings Survey.

NPS ParkNet at www.nps.gov is the NPS portal. Staff will be present to discuss the:

  • Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System (CWSS) of Civil War records NPS Focus Digital Library & Research Station consists of a seamless integration of a metadata (cataloging) management system and a separate image management system. It represents the first NPS effort to maintain a central repository for all digital content as well as a coordinated effort to set up policies and procedures for scanning, serving, and archiving digital resources.
  • National Park Service Interactive Map Center (IMC) is an on-line resource for finding and viewing information about and maps of national parks.
