In January 2001, the National Museum of Asian Arts-Guimet in Paris reopened its doors to the public after a five-year complete renovation project. An extensive new web site accompanied the inauguration, with a section left blank for a then-incomplete virtual tour. The completed tour opened in December 2001. It took six months to build, and ended up being one of the largest and most comprehensive museum-related virtual tours on the Web. Zoomable panoramas of each gallery are supplemented by numerous text popups and sound files taken from the museum's audioguide.
