Gerry Berkowski is Head of the Acquisition & Access Unit, Hudson's Bay Company Archives, Provincial Archives of Manitoba. The Unit is responsible for records management advisory services, for negotiating future acquisition or access arrangements with Hudson's Bay Company
and its subsidiaries, and for ensuring effective public and corporate
access to materials in the Hudson's Bay Company Archives collection. Previous experience includes work in the Public Access and Freedom of Information Unit of Government Records division. At present, Berkowski is one of two full-time staff of the Provincial Archives' Better Records Initiative, which was launched in 1996 to address electronic recordkeeping issues. The purpose of Better Records is to develop
recordkeeping standards and practices that may be adopted and applied across the Manitoba Government and used as a model for the Archives other clients, including the Hudson's Bay Company.
