Christine Ardern is Manager of Archives and Records Management at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Toronto. The 7 person unit is responsible for archives, records management and fine art consulting services within the CIBC Group of Companies, which includes its subsidiaries internationally. In this capacity, the staff provides advice on record-keeping options, including optional storage media and participates in business process design and engineering projects in partnership with the Operations and Technology consultants. In addition, the unit establishes policies, procedures and standards for record-keeping to address the internal business needs, risk related issues, corporate archival needs as well as external regulatory requirements. In an corporate environment which consistently aims to reduce paper and which continually looks for ways to implement new technologies, electronic record-keeping issues are a major concern, given the regulatory framework within which CIBC operates. In addition to having been involved record-keeping for the last 20 years in a variety of organizations Christine has been a regular speaker on archives and records management issues and is incoming president-elect of ARMA International.
